FIBO Art

Thanks to the PTA, our school received yet another FIBO art lesson! The kids were so excited as soon as they heard FIBO was coming back. We began with an assembly in the MPR last week, and then the amazing and very well-trained FIBO art instructors led the art lesson in our classroom. They provided all of the necessary materials and kept the children thoroughly engaged. Take a look at the students hard at work!

For families interested in enrolling their children in FIBO art classes, the company has an art studio locally at the Tustin Marketplace next to Color Me Mine. Your child could even take a free introductory class to start! Visit the FIBO website for more information.

ST Math

Jiji Math

Woodbury Elementary is starting a new math intervention program called JiJi Math. This engaging computer-based program is a fun way for children to practice and solidify their math skills. All Woodbury students have accounts set up for this new program already, and students will have access to JiJi Math both at school and at home.

For use at home:

  1. Visit the JiJi Math website.
  2. Click on JiJi, the Penguin.
  3. On the second screen, click on JiJi again.
  4. If you are setting up JiJi Math for the first time on your home computer, you will need to enter the activation code: HOP700-HNA-8E-QHH
  5. If your child has already memorized the visual password, enter all of the correct icons in the correct order.
  6. If your child has NOT memorized the visual password, click on the rectangle icon with the two parallel horizontal lines (found in the lower right hand corner). This will take children to the visual password training lesson.
  7. Enter Student Login Information
  • 2nd Grade:
    • Username: student computer login (i.e. 23smithjohn)
    • Password: 9-digit student ID number
  • 1st Grade:
    • Username: student computer login (i.e. 23smithjohn)
    • Password: jiji

The program will begin with a math placement assessment. It will start off very easy (matching puzzle pieces together), and progress to more difficult levels to measure students’ math skills. Students should continue through the initial math placement until it is complete. Afterwards, the program will automatically monitor the child’s progress and adjust levels accordingly.

Thank You, PTA!

book fair

Our PTA is amazingly generous! As you know, our Book Fair is happening right now and the PTA gave the teachers money to spend on books for our classrooms. The students are going to love the extra books in our classroom library! We truly couldn’t do it without wonderful parents who support our PTA so THANK YOU!

Read Across America Day

dr-seuss-birthday

“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” -Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss epitomizes a love of children and learning. His use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful. When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we send a clear message to our students that reading is fun and important.

What better way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday than reading to a child? On March 3rd, we had two wonderful guest readers, Mrs. Thornhill and Mrs. Kong, come into our class as a guest readers. The students enjoyed listening to Oh, the Places You’ll Go and One Cent, Two Cent!  After reading Oh, the Places You’ll Go, the students brainstormed different places they want to visit, important goals they want to accomplish, and important people they want to meet. They also discussed important people they would encounter along the way. Of course, they all said that you, as parents, were among the most important people in their lives because “you’ll be there to support them during their whole life.” Our kids already have such amazing insight and lofty goals at such a young age! Let’s continue to promote a love of reading because as we know, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Woodbury Jogathon is on March 28th!

Dear Woodbury Families,

Our annual Jogathon is coming soon on March 28th.  This is our biggest fundraiser and one of the most exciting things our PTA does all year!

This year, you and your child(ren) can collect pledges ONLINE, from friends and family anywhere in the world!

It’s EASY, just follow these steps:

1)  In a web browser, go to this page: http://woodburyjogathon.com/

2)  In the right hand column, use “Register Here” by adding your first and last name and your email address.  The system will send you a password by email.

3)  Log into the system using the “Sign In Here” feature on the left column and the password emailed to you.

4)  Once you are logged in, you can upload a picture of your child(ren), then the system will ask for email addresses, names and salutations.

5)  Enter information for all your friends and family, one at a time, clicking the “+” icon to add additional entries. The system will automatically email your recipients with a personal and heart warming message, asking for pledges.

You can always log back in and add more names, later.

You will receive emails from the system notifying you when people make a pledge to your child.

That’s all you have to do!

There will be a SPECIAL PRIZE for any child who enters 20 or more pledge request emails on the website.

Pledge envelopes will be sent home next week, but you can get a head start on your Jogathon pledges TODAY by registering on http://woodburyjogathon.com.

Let’s help make this year’s Jogathon the BEST ever!

Thank you for your support!

Upcoming Red Party

heart-ballons
Valentine’s Day is on Friday, February 14th. Our wonderful Room Moms are planning a great “Red Party” for our students. In addition, many students enjoy passing out valentine grams to their classmates (but it is most certainly not mandatory to pass out anything). Below is some helpful information.
  • There are 32 children in our class. Please use the class list that was sent home and help your child fill out the “To:”  and “From:” field for each note.
  • Please avoid candy/food grams if possible. Alternatives may include non-edible items such as stickers, pencils, erasers, temporary tattoos, simple handwritten notes, plain valentine cards, stamps, bookmarks, etc.
  • Here are a few sample items that make great valentine grams!
  • The students will be able to pass out their Valentine grams in class, but they will not be allowed to open (or eat) any of the grams until they are home. This will allow parents to check any candy/food grams that may have been passed out before the children consume them.
  • A sweet idea for parents: Write your child a surprise love note for him/her to find and read in their snack or lunch bags!
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Thank you in advance for your partnership! Check back soon for pictures of our party!
